The event started on a
very high note with Residents and their children gathering as early as
7.00pm. When the celebration officially started, a large number of them
were already enjoying the delightful food provided.
Midway
through, it started to drizzle. Everyone sensed an increased
urgency with the arrival of more and more residents, and started to rush
through their meals. Those who had finished and those with children
started to make a reluctantly slow way home. The rain had forced a retreat
that was not originally planned, especially for the children.
In the
meantime, more residents were arriving including, our friends from USJ17.
It really started to pour, but undaunted, a large number of residents braved the
weather and everyone was huddled inside the canopy tents like sardines,
surprisingly spirits continued to be very high.
As
expected, the rain slowed and there was relieve from a great number of the
residents. N/W Members from our neighbours in USJ16 arrived with umbrellas
followed by the N/W members from USJ18.
The
rain came to a halt as the N/W members started various discussions about
how each group ran their Neighbourhood Watch. There were exchanges of ideas - in
between sticks of satay - on how to foster Community Spirit and good
neighbourliness, how to motivate residents to participate in various
activities organised by the N/W Groups, what activities were planned in
the future.
As the
evening wore on our Residents, having finished their meals started to
disperse, each with a big smile on their faces, knowing that come rain or
shine, neighbourliness was alive and kicking strongly in and around
USJ.
With
good people like Andy Lim (Chairman JKP Zon3), Ong Hua Meng (Chairman
USJ16 N/W), Raymond Tan (Chairman USJ18 N/W) and
Yee Foon Kong
(Chairman USJ23 N/W), there is no doubt that Community Spirit in the whole
of USJ will continue
to grow from strength to strength.
To achieve togetherness
in our individual community is already admirable, but to see the beginning
of inter-neighbourhood co-operation is something quite unique. |
